New Job Notice from the Works, Power and Irrigation Ministry has published by the department of NHA. In the light of the National Housing Policy, the National Assembly adopted and approved the National Housing Authority (NHA) Act. 2000. In line with this Act, the Housing and Settlement Directive (HSD). And the Deputy Commissioner of Settlement (DCS) offices have abolished and a new company has formed by the NHA to merge these two entities. The National Housing Authority Act 2000 is enforced on July 15, 2001 through a public notice.

Background of Establishment of the National Housing Authority (NHA)

The end of the British rule and the partition of the subcontinent resulted in migration of million of Muslim refugees flocked into the four main cities of Bangladesh. And it has started living on vacant government lands in these cities. They erected makeshift houses creating unplanned and unhygienic condition. The influx of these refugees also produced tremendous strain on the existing services and infrastructures. In view of these situation the then government created housing wing under the Works, Power and Irrigation Ministry in 1958.

In order to rehabilitate refugees in local low and middle income families, and in an organized manner, the government adopts housing programs throughout the country. After successful completion of the “Housing Wing” refugee resettlement program, the current housing and settlement was upgraded at 9.1 under the directorate. The democratic government of the 21st has now formulated the National Housing Policy 20 of the country’s present need to ensure shelter for all.
